Which of the following statements best describes the graph of x + y = 4? It is a line which intersects the x axis at (4, 4). It is a line which intersects the y axis at (4, 4). It is a line joining the points whose x and y coordinates add up to 8. It is a line joining the points whose x and y coordinates add up to 4.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Why not start by graphing the equation, even tho you weren't asked to graph it? Seeing the graph would tell you a lot. Next, you might want to eliminate the obvously-wrong answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its D but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Sorry. I typed info to you but apparently didn't wait to be sure it posted. Again I would suggest you draw the graph of x+y=4. To find the y-intercept: Let x=0 and find y. To find the x-intercept: Let y=0 and find x. This may be all the info you need to choose the correct answer to this question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with this I'm pretty sure its C

OpenStudy (mathmale):

hyntc: i would much rather help you arrive at the correct answer, and will generally not be telling you that you're "right" or "wrong". Earlier I suggested that you eliminate the worst of the 4 possible answers; have y ou done that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its (4,4) and if you add it it equals 8

OpenStudy (mathmale):

It's great when you explain your reasoning AND end up with the correct answer because you did the problem properly! Congrats. Hope you think, as I do, that we make a good team.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank u bro

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You're very welcome, bro! ('Though at age 69, I wonder whether we could actually be "bros".) :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jaja and wow u really are smart
