Reserved powers are a term used to mean the powers that may be exercised by the head of state without the approval of another branch of the government. These powers are usually used only in certain exceptional circumstances. These powers include granting pardon, to dismiss a Prime Minister, to refuse to dissolve Parliament and to refuse or delay the Royal Assent to legislation.
