find the area of a rhombus with a side length 9.4m and a vertex angle that measures 45. no trig just using geometry!

@Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I don't know what that means because a rhombus doesn't have a vertex angle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A=bh could it be a 45 45 90 triange within?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for some reason its not letting me draw - what i am thinking

OpenStudy (mertsj):

If you are saying that dropping the perpendicular to draw the height of the rhombus forms a 45-45-90 triangle, then the height and the base are both 9.4

OpenStudy (mertsj):

And the area is 4.7(9.4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answers in the book saying A=44.18 sqrt 2 = 62.48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer u said where 4.7(9.4) is the 44.18 but where is the square root coming from

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if that is s then i suppose 44.18 sqrt 2 would be the side of the hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So they are saying that the side of the rhombus is the hypotenuse of a 45-45-90 triangle and therefore the leg (which is the height of the rhombus) is 9.4/sqrt2 . When you simplify that you get 4.7sqrt2 To find the area, multiply the height by 9.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was confusing lol! thanks for the help!
