Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions? (t^2+6t)/(t-1)-(7)/(t-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please show me how to do the work i'm confused

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The denominators are both equal to t-1. So this means we can combine the numerators and place them over the common denominator. After you do this, factor and simplify. (t^2+6t)/(t-1)-(7)/(t-1) (t^2+6t-7)/(t-1) ((t-1)(t+7))/(t-1) t+7 ... notice how the "t-1" terms cancel out That means (t^2+6t)/(t-1)-(7)/(t-1) simplifies to t+7 The restriction is that t cannot equal 1 (to avoid division by zero)

Hmm okay. I think I get it. Thank you.

you're welcome
