memorize that the exponent ½ is the same as square root exponent ⅓ is the same as cube root or in general, the exponent 1/n means the "nth root" for example, you can rewrite sqr(4) as 4^(½) the square root of 4 is the same as 4 to the ½ power in your case, cube root x^4 is the same as (x^4) ^ (⅓) you can simplify the exponent using this rule (x^a) ^ b is the same as x^(ab) that means (x^4) ^ (⅓) is the same as x^(4*⅓) = x^(4/3)
