•How can translations help me understand how to represent verbal phrases as algebraic expressions?
@mathmale and @jim_thompson5910
UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Lol is that what I should put as my answer lol
@mathmale can you help me please!!!?
In a minute or two, yes.
Thanks!!!
still
Your question is a rather general one, but I'll do the best I can here. You're most likely talking about vertical and/or horizontal translations of graphs in cartesian coordinates (that is, when you have an x- and a y-axis). For example: The graph of y=x^2 is a parabola through (0,0) that opens upward. The corresponding graph of y=(x-1)^2 has exactly the same appearance, except that the whole graph is moved one unit to the right. to what extent are you with me on this?
I'm not with you at all hun I've been taking this same class since 8th grade that's how bad I don't get it. :(
Well, hon, would you please try explaining in your own words what "translations" are when the subject matter is graphs? Try giving an example or two. i'm sure you've learned something appropriate, one way or the other.
I really do want you to be "with me" in understanding the procedures involved.
I.........I don't know........ I'm sorry
it depends on what are you translating it from or to if you were translating it from a completely different language you don't even have a clue what each word meant, then it would be a good idea to learn the language first. the same goes to whatever you will be translating it to. it's like translating Aramaic to Xhosa, if you have no clue what Aramaic words are, then it wouldn't really get you far to translate it to Xhosa even if you knew Xhosa and the same vice-versa
Now if you're translating English words to mathematical symbols and expressions, and if you spoke English relatively well, you might find the activity very fascinating. Subtract, minus, deduct and difference, left, fewer, less than and words alike denote the - sign Add, sum, total, increase and more than give you the + sign I think you know where this is going, yeah?
examples: the sum of 5 and 12 5 + 12 increase 13 by 5 13 + 5 the difference between 16 and 6 16 - 6 fifteen less than 45 45 - 15
Okay I'm understanding
mathematical operations and expressions can be translated to native language is the bottom line.
Alright wow thank you
