find area to the nearest square inch

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Hmm i say you find the area of the cone then the area of the cylinder and then add them together...do you know the formulas for them?

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

yea

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

-_- please refresh my memory...

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

cylinder surface area = \[SA=2\pi rh+2\pi r^2\] cone surface area =\[SA=\frac{ 1 }{ 2 } 2\pi r*l+r^2\] l is slant

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

i think

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Oh lets find the area of the cylinder first: we have the formula A = 2pirh + 2pir^2 So lets plug in what we have... A = 2 x 3.14 x 6 x 15 + 2 x 3.14 x 6^2 A = 6.28 x 6 x 15 + 2 x 3.14 x 6^2 A = 37.68 x 15 + 2 x 3.14 x 6^2 A = 565.2 + 2 x 3.14 x 6^2 A = 565.2 + 6.28 x 6^2 A = 565.2 + 6.28 x 36 A = 565.2 + 226.08 A = 791.28

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Ok...now that i look at what i just did i think we have the wrong formula...I think it is: A = 2pir^2 + 2pirh

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

A = 2 x 3.14 x 6^2 + 2 x 3.14 x 6 x 15 A = 2 x 3.14 x 36 A = 6.28 x 36 A = 226.08 A = 2 x 3.14 x 6 x 15 A = 6.28 x 6 x 15 A = 37.68 x 15 A = 565.2 A = 565.2 + 226.08 A = 792

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

It wasn't that far off -_- ok my fault again...

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

im confused -_- so i use the other formula?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

The one that i listed? I believe so...

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

ok well my book says the answer is 390......

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

i do not understand this thing any more -_-

OpenStudy (highschoolmom2010):

me either

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

@agent0smith @Darry&Gator please help.
