Which of the following best describes the ordered pairs listed below? (-3, -4), (2, -9), (-3, -13), (9, -16) both a relation and a function neither a relation nor a function function only relation only

@whpalmer4

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

all of them are relations, right?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

a function is a special sort of relation, one where there is only 1 y value for each value of x.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

look down the list. are any of the x values repeated? If so, do they have different y values? if you find the same value of x combined with a different value of y, it is not a function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the difference between x and y? I think it is..... B..??

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

the convention is (x,y)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

didn't we agree that all of these are relations?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

maybe I was the only one who agreed :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g2g...thanks and lol

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

and functions are a subset of relations. just like squares are a subset of rectangles
