I need help and I will give a medal. Don't know how to solve this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well looking at the ratio 1:3:9 the ratio makes 13 cups of salsa ( 1 + 3 + 9) so how many lots of 13 in 117 cups...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 @campbell_st

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the final answer 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you add 1 + 3 +9 which is 13 then you divide 3 by 13 which gives you the amount of onions for one cup and then you just multiply the result with 117

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@campbell_st and @Stardollieee, who is right? There are two different answers.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well it depends on where you want an answer... you where you want to learn how to answer this type of question. as @Stardollieee has given the answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, I do want to know how to answer it, but I also want to know if 27 is the correct answer.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well it is the correct answer... and this is why 117/(1 + 3 + 9) = 9 So multiple each part of the ratio by 9 1x9:3x9:9x9 which is 9:27:81 add the parts together to see you have 117 cups...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you, that was the kind of answer I was looking for. I want to thank both of you, so who wants the medal and who wants the fan.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you both for you help.
