How were German Americans treated during World War 1? And is that treatment similar to the treatment of Islamic Americans and Arab Americans after 9/11?

I have to write an essay, and I'm not looking for just a plain answer, I actually need help! I think I kind of understand, but looking online, I can't really find anything (shockingly).

we need to first understand what is going on and who are we talking about America was at war with germany during world war I so germany is the enemy. Some people who supported the war strongly probably hated the germans and all their kind. people who supported the war moderately probably did not like germany. all in all germany and germans were seen as enemies. So imagine if a person who is the same as your enemy but lives next door to you existed. whether you like or not you would feel an animosty towards them. thats what happened with germans

muslims got treated in a similar way. I am a muslim and we got treated kinda harshly homeland security started to blow up these tiny tiny insignificant problems. cities started to crack down on muslim buisness owners and a lot of things like that. for the sole reason that the so called perpetrators of 9/11 were "radical islamic terrorists". harsh treatment towards germans is understandable they are members of that nation that you are at war with. but the so called "perpetrators" had nothing to do with islam. Islamic law forbids a nation from killing civilians during a state of war. the word nation should be underlined here, so how did these people justify going out and killing these people? they didn't act in the name of islam and they don't represent islam. the treatment is similar in that both people got treated badly but different in that the treatment of muslims was totally uncalled for
