the greatest common factor 16 has is 8, but you also have to look at 72. Is 8 a factor of 72 ? (divide)
OpenStudy (studygurl14):
GCF:
16 - 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
72 - 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, ...
What is the great factor that they both have?
OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

i know 9
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and 8

No, is 9 a factor of 16? Nope? So 9 is incorrect
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2?
OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):
No. That would be the LCM.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
8 and 2
OpenStudy (studygurl14):
Actually, that wouldn't be the LCM @tHe_FiZiCx99
ANYWAY...what's the answer @icrashjk

Um, yes it would,
2 goes into 16 8 time
2 goes into 72 36 times
2 goes into 8 4time
2 goes into 36 18 times
2 goes into 4 2 times
2 goes into 18 9 times
So 2/9
OpenStudy (studygurl14):
LCM means lowest common MULTIPLE:
OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):
Yes but if I used 1 then it'd be the same thing. It's a multiple yes, 1 is a multiple of every number.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so the answer is
OpenStudy (anonymous):
......

We aren't giving you the answer @icrashjk

but you don't know what LCM is...
OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):
4 is a multiple but not the greatest.
Yes, I do...
OpenStudy (studygurl14):
2 is not the LCM of 16 and 72. Neither is 1. LCM is the least common MULTIPLE. Meaning the smallest number divisible by both 16 and 72. 2 is not divisible by 16!
OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):
16 is divisible by 2.
16 is also divisible by 1, I'm aware of that. But if I used 1. I'd get no where as 16/1 is the same as 16..
OpenStudy (studygurl14):
I'm confused now...lol

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):
I alreayd told you @icrashjk it's not 4. Try again.
OpenStudy (studygurl14):
GCF:
16 - 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
72 - 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, ...
What is the great factor that they both have?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh.. sorry didnt see that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then its 8

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):
@StudyGurl14 you said 1 is a multiple. 1 is a factor. Not a multiple.
