True or False: When you dilate a figure, the coordinates are divided by the scale factor. I really dont get what this question is asking can someone help me with it and explain to me what its asking... THANKS!!!! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, do you understand what dilation means, first of all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt it either making it bigger or smaller?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like the shape bigger or smaller

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. so if you have a figure with three vertices: (0,0), (1,1), and (1,0) sorry that's lazy lol but anyway, a dilation would be if you multiplied all coordinates by the same constant. That would make each side of the figure bigger by the same factor or smaller by the same factor.

So it is false--it's not divided by the scale factor. It's multiplied by.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i see thank you so much!!!! you helped me understand it better!!! :)

No problem, anytime! :)
