How to simplify 4(x-6)-3x(2x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By distribution we get: \[4(x-6)-3x(2x+2) \rightarrow 4x-24-6x^2-6x \rightarrow-6x^2-2x-24\]

The you can divide the expression by 2 to get to the most simple form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which looks like this: \[-6x^2-2x-24\rightarrow-3x^2-x-12\]

you can also multiply the expression by negative one to make the whole thing positive

but dividing by 2 or multiplying by -1 gives you something that is not equal to the original expression --- or am I missing something?
