OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is it benificial for the Adelie penguins to have the same coloration as the great white shark?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Consider the specific pattern as well when you're thinking about this problem....the dorsal side of both animals is colored (either black, or gray) whereas the ventral side is not. When you're on the bottom of the ocean looking up on a sunny day...what stands out against the bright water? A white organism or a colorful one? Alternatively, when you're on top of the water looking down at the bottom, where less light is available...what stands out more? A white organism or a dark colored one? The net effect then is that they are less likely to be spotted...such a benefit is essential to both predators and prey. http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4f85d456e4b0505bf085dedd

OpenStudy (acarpenter2):

So they don't get stalked by predators because the predator will assume the penguin is a great white.
