To be a function in an ordered pair (x,y) for each value of x there can only be one y value.

i still dont understand???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at the first set of numbers (3,5) , (-1,7) (3,9)..What are the values for x in each of these pairs of numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3,-1,3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You show the number 3 in two different ordered pairs correct. (3,5) and (3,9) correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The x values are the same but the y values are different so this cannot be a function because For each x value there can only be 1 unique y value.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thank you
