Hello here's a story I hope most of you will enjoy. :) it's just the first chapter.
Linda Kyler ~ Tied Up in Clues chapter 1....... It’s What I Do Best The cover over my head was removed. I was in a chair with my arms bound with thick rope. The light was bright and stung my eyes as they tried to get used to the lighting. The smell in the air was stuffy. My body was weak and tired. From the feeling, my hands were probably bruised from the tightness of the rope. The room they had placed me in was what seemed to be a cleared out factory building that hadn't been used in years. The ceilings were high and there were a few cardboard boxes that were piled up in a corner. Emotions were mixed up inside of me as I tried to recall the last of my events, but once my eyes were completely focused; there I saw sitting right in front of me was the one person I sought for eight long years. The one person that now made me see what my emotions were, revenge. Hate and anger swelled up inside of me. I could no longer remember if I was tired or not. Heat swarmed all over me. A knot in my throat started to form. My heart raced quickly and my thoughts began to mix. I could no longer think. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words seemed to find their way out. This wasn't even the end and it certainly wasn't the beginning. Like most things, this had a series of events that led up to it. And like most people, they can’t see where their decisions might lead them. Well for mine, it led me to my nearby death or what I would say, fate. My name is Linda Kyler, the not so average sixteen year old girl you would find on the streets of Washington D.C. Well maybe average if you would consider snooping a hobby, eagerly walking into crime scenes, or making friends with the local police officer. There are just so many mysteries to be solved and to me, it doesn't seem as if there’s enough policemen around to solve them. I figured maybe that’s why I was gifted with a high observation and quick thinking. Someone needs to stand up and be the hero sometime or another and I’ve got a gut feeling that it’s my time to shine... CHINATOWN 7:00 P.M. It started off with a cold autumn night in Chinatown. Lights from all the shops and buildings were on. Noises from all the people walking and talking was a muffle to my ears. Most people spoke in chinese, which wasn't one of my fluent languages, but to come to think of it, it would probably be best if it was. There was more people walking to their distention than there were cars in the streets. Davis, my twin brother and I were walking back from Karate class. I was dying to solve a mystery. I hadn’t solved one in two weeks. In for me, that’s a long time. For the first time in my life I was really hoping for some unfortunate old lady’s purse to get robbed. But after that idea, I kind of regretted it. Davis had interrupted my thinking when he started to say, “Did you see me beat up that kid in karate class today?” I tried to remember, “Umm….who, was it Fred?” “No not Fred, the asian kid.…” I looked at Davis with the most serious face i could possibly make. "Umm....Davis? They're all asian...." Davis was slightly embarrassed and then bursted into a laughter I start to laugh because we both couldn't remember. We barely knew anyone in our karate class even though we've been going there for about five years. “I bet I can remember when I least expect it.” He said in a confident manner. He opened his mouth to say something else but suddenly a large sound of broken glass was heard from the building across the street. We both stood still and the sound from all the busy people seemed to vanish. A man came rushing out of the window he had broken and ran into the dark alley holding an old vase. A crowd of people started to form in front of the building and sirens of police cars could be heard in the distance. Chills ran up my spine. I looked at Davis and I gave him a big smile. The next thing i'm doing is running across the street with Davis running after me. An old man came out of the building and started yelling something in chinese. I noticed that the building was an old antique shop. It didn't seem as if it was in business. Two police cars pulled up. A young officer got out of one car and started to take notes, while the other officer, much more older and a bit husky, started to tell people to go home. The young police officer, most likely new on the job was trying to understand the old man, who had just got his house robbed. I was listening on their conversation and the officer was trying to ask the old man if he had any idea where the robber had gone. The old man had no idea what he was trying to ask. "Mr.Long, please will you tell me which way he went?" As I was trying to listen, the other officer was telling me to go home. "Miss you need to leave. The police will handle this." I wasn't listening to him and he started to get stern. I focused my attention on the victim. "Miss I will give you 10 seconds to start stepping away from this area...." The officer began to say. "Uh, i'm sorry officer. You see... she....uh she... she's actually deaf!" Davis explained to the officer while tightly grabbing onto my wrist. But I quickly yanked away from his grip and yelled out, "I know where he went!" All eyes were on me. The officer taking notes turned around and was relieved. "Thank goodness! Someone who can speak english!" the officer said walking over to me, "So what did you see?" "He ran into the alley." I said pointing towards the alley. The husky officer then got a flashlight and ran down the alley. "Thank you for your cooperation. My name is Floyd. If you find any more clues just give me a call." He said giving me his card. "Yes sir!" I said as he ran to go help his partner. As I was just standing there holding the card observing it slowly, Davis came up behind me and yelled, "Why on earth did you do that?" Davis did not wait for me to answer instead he dragged me all the way home, which wasn't that far, it was walking distance. Little did he know that I attended to be there tomorrow and the days after, or so i thought... Mom got a little upset that we came home a bit late without notifying her. "I would be fine with it if you would just call me for once in awhile. And Linda, I don't want you hanging around crime scenes. It's too dangerous." Mom said as we ate our slightly cold dinner. "But Mom, it's not dangerous It's perfectly safe. Plus there are policemen around to protect me" I insist. "Linda I don't want to hear it anymore. And Davis, I expected more from you. The spying has to stop. You two didn't even finish your homework." She was now a little more than upset. "I did some of my school work.” I said quietly. "Just some? You two aren't doing anything until your school work is done. You may go out to the Cafe to study but that's it. Do you two know how delayed you are in school?" she asked. Davis and I were just staring down at our barely touched food. We're in eleventh grade and we’re home schooled. We love being home schooled and wouldn't dare going to public school. RULE # 9. Solving mysteries is all about having time. If we were in public school, we wouldn't have anytime to snoop around. "I'm disappointed. Things better shape up. I'm real busy with my job so please, don't make me even more stressed out," she said as she stood up from the kitchen table. "Davis your driving Linda tomorrow." "What?! Why?" I asked shockingly. "Because I want the two of you to stick together. If you guys are together you guys can stay out of trouble." She said as she walked out of the kitchen. I looked up at Davis who sat directly across from me. "Sorry, Lin but mom's right. I don't want to have to deal with this anymore. Understand?" Davis said in a more proper voice than usual. "Davis, come on? You gotta be kidding me!" Davis didn't say anything. He was serious. I was disappointed. Ever since dad died, Davis acted like he was responsible for me. It annoyed me tremendously, considering he's always telling me what to do and what not to do. It’s been eight years since Dad's been gone and I miss him alot. If he were here he wouldn't mind me snooping around. To be exact, I remember him snooping along with Davis and I when we were little. Davis doesn't seem to like snooping as much anymore. Or maybe it's because he has to be 'responsible' and doesn't have time for clues. It hurts because he has changed, and anyone can agree, nobody likes a changed close friend. He's been distant... whatever it is, I hope he soon becomes himself again because I've got an eerie feeling that this mystery is going to be a big one...
