Solve the system of linear equations below. y = -2x + 19 y = x + 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is easy actually :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just simple substitution my friend

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. x = 4, y = 11 B. x = -12, y = -5 C. x = -4, y = 3 D. x = 8, y = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

show me with steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay! gimme a min :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer is A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll tell u the steps now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. \[y=-2x+19\] 2. \[y=x+7\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

next step: from 2. take the value of x: \[x=y-7\] and substitute in 1. : \[y=-2(y-7)+19\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then: \[y=-2y+14+19\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3y=33\]

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

or you could just substitute x + 7 in for y in the first equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks very helpful!

@edjoey u are welcome! :)
