factor 6x^2+5x+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3x+1)(2x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you show your work how did you solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(3x*2x=6x^2,3x*1=3x,2x*1=2x,1*1=1) so 6x^2,3x+2x=5x,1 =6x^5x+1

I always do factor by grouping when a>1. a*c in this case just 6*1=6, find the numbers that multiply to be the product of a&c, but add to be B, in this case, 3*2=6 while 3+2=5 then you can rewrite the problem to be 6x^2+3x+2x+1, find the GCF of each side; 3x goes in to the first 2 terms (6x^2 and 3x) and becomes 3x(2x+1), the second side is already 2x+1 so now you've got (3x+1)(2x+1)

and when I refer to A B and C it is as parts of a trinomial ax^2 + bx + C. Also a helpful video to understand the concept I am using. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvBiJ9W00Z4
