Which personal pronoun best completes the sentence? How is it used? I ran home and told my parents, "The captains of the football team are Andrew and __________." A. I; subject B. me; predicate nominative C. I; predicate nominative D. me; subject @evilbrand97 @starrhunter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A predicate nominative is a noun or pronoun which follows the verb and describes or renames the subject. It is another way of naming the subject. It follows a linking verb. Think about what a subject is and then tell me what you think. We know that grammatically speaking, "I" would be the word to use. But which part of speech makes more sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

predicate nominative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes predicate nominative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look again. Where is the linking verb? Think about the topic of the sentence. Where do you see any verbs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be B then.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Andrew and I don't say Andrew and Me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is between A and C but remember what I told you about predicate nominatives

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it's between A and C it would be B. Correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is it a subject its not a start of a sentence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm just trying to help @HB0102 figure it out for her/himself :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@starrhunter So it wouldn't be a predicate nominative. Therefore making it D, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I ty but Im trying to give her a good grade

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But he/she also needs to learn the material as well. It will help @HB0102 in the end.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@starrhunter I understand it. It's just when I come to the test I blank out. So it would be D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but any help u need ill help u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@evilbrand97 Thank you. Both of you. @starrhunter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is not D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I was right the first time? You told me it isn't a predicate nominative.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
