Suppose that we have a white urn containing four white balls and one red ball and have a red urn containing one white ball and three red balls. An experiment consists of selecting at random a ball from the white urn and then (without replacing the first ball) Selecting at random a ball from the urn having the colour of the first ball. Find the probability that the second ball is red. The probability that the second ball is red is ______.

Observe that the probability of drawing a red ball for the second draw is the same whether or not you draw a white ball from the white urn or a red ball from the white urn. If you draw a red ball first, then there is a 1/4 chance that you 'll draw another red ball from the red urn. Draw a white ball first, then there is a 1/4 chance of drawing a red ball from the white urn.
