Why can't a hypothesis be proven?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

hypothesis can be proved..if it is proved correct then it becomes a law....

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

that is what experimentation is all about..proving the hypothesis right or wrong..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When they say it can't be proven, the usually mean that there are always ways to prove it to be not true, and it will believed to be true until someone else comes a long and proves it otherwise. When there is absolutely no way to prove it to be false its considered a law. hypothesis isn't true cause they can always change and be further tested. but laws are always true.

i thought it can't @shrutipande9 because there will always be some uncontrolled variables or another experiment in the near future could refute it.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

see it is both ways.....for eg lets say that people call person X mad...so this is a hypothesis. if clinically and by a psychiatrist it is proven then the hypothesis is correct but if the psychiatrist says he has no problem then the hypothesis is wrong.. i know this is a very lame eg..but i hope this helps..:P
