Calculate the average speed of a complete round trip in which the outgoing 210km is covered at 98km/h , followed by a 1.0-h lunch break, and the return 210km is covered at 52km/h .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the times for the moving legs from t=distance/velocity add the lunch break to the two times and get average velocity = total distance / total time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

67.96?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should be 210/98 + 210/52 + 1 = total time total distance = 2 x 210 I got 58 and a fraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m/h?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

58 km/h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. km/hr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I got it thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

average velocity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

average velocity = total distance/total time usually called "average speed" If they are trying to be tricky, using "velocity" rather than speed, velocity being a vector displacement per time, in which case, they went nowhere net and the average velocity is 0.

thanks

You are quite welcome.
