How to simplify 1 2/3 times 5? please help and explain.

OpenStudy (snowcrystal):

to multiply 1st you must put both in fraction form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did that.

OpenStudy (snowcrystal):

then multiply accross

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

First you want to multiply. Convert the mixed number to improper. Multiply the denominator by the whole number then add the product to the numerator. That will give you your mixed number. Make 5 as a fraction by putting 1 as the denominator . Then multiply the numbers horizontally.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did and it is saying it is wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my answer is 25/3 and it is wrong

OpenStudy (snowcrystal):

your should have it set up like this: 5/3 times 5/1

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

*mixed number => improper fraction

OpenStudy (snowcrystal):

did u try makin it a mixed number?

OpenStudy (the_fizicx99):

|dw:1391996770545:dw| |dw:1391996803220:dw| How many times does 3 go into 25 and how many is left over? The denominator stays the same.
