The use of phrases, fragments, and punctuation can affect the pace and mood of a text. How would you describe the pace of the following passage? "Yet, mad am I not—and very surely do I not dream. But to-morrow I die, and to-day I would unburden my soul. My immediate purpose is to place before the world, plainly, succinctly, and without comment, a series of mere household events. In their consequences, these events have terrified—have tortured—have destroyed me." Slow Fast Both fast and slow Average

Because punctuation lets the reader know when to pause and take a breath or take a break, the more punctuation you have the choppier the sentence can be, slowing down the pace. For long winded sentences, the reader doesn't get notified to take a break so it keeps going and stays fast. With that in mind, what do you think about the sentences?
