If a function, f(x) is shifted to the left four units, what function represents the transformation? A. f(x-4) B. f(x) - 4 C. f(x+4) D. f(x) + 4 I'm thinking C.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I went by thid y = f(x + n) shifts f(x) n units to the left. y = f(x – n) shifts f(x) n units to the right. y = f(x) + n shifts f(x) n units upward. y = f(x) – n shifts f(x) n units downward.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you are correct, it's the third one.

This* and Thank you

@AngelCriner : Hi. Try to remember this [or write it on your notes]: The vertical shift, k, has a direct effect on the function. --> If k = x, then the function is shifted up x units. --> If k = –x, then the function is shifted down -x units. The horizontal shift, h, has an opposite effect on the function. --> If h = x, then the function is shifted to the left x units. --> If h = –x, then the function is shifted to the right -x units. x = a positive number. x = a negative number. Good luck and have a nice day! (´ヮ`)

Oooh thank you! Much needed and hopefully you all have a nice day as well.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You too!

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Ohmigosh, I forgot to add something that will help you on questions like these... This is how a vertical shift looks like..

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

And how a horizantal shift would look like.. @angelcriner

Thank youuuu @kewlgeek555 ^-^ appreciate you
