My chat doesn't seem to be working so I will ask my question here. Does anyone know where I can find help in genetics??

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

hi! this is d section where u can get genetics help...infact i can help u wid genetics..

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

wats ur ques?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've got some problems dealing with mitosis, meiosis I, and meiosis II along with the theory of chromosome inheritance

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

sure..i can help u out....wer r u stuck exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i keep losing connection on this site = ( i love it but too many ppl on here are over loading it lol ok hang on let me type the question out thank you so much for helping me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In a certain strain of turkeys, unfertilized eggs sometimes develop parthenogenetically to produce diploid offspring. (Females have ZW and males have ZZ sex chromosomes. Assume that WW cells are inviable.) What distribution of sexes would you expect to see among the parthenogenetic offspring according to each of the following models for how parthenogenesis occurs? a. The eggs deveolp without ever going through meiosis. b. The eggs go all the way through meiosis and then duplicate their chromosomes to become diploid. c. The eggs go through meiosis I, and the chromatids separate to create diploidy. d. The egg goes all the way through meiosis and then fuses at random with one of its three polar bodies (this assumes the first polar body goes through meiosis II.)

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

http://www.oardc.ohio-state.edu/4hpoultry/t02_pageview/The_Tremendous_Turkey_10.htm check dis out....dis is a lil diff from d normal cell division..so i am also brushing up...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok checkin it out = )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i think i understand a. It would be all females and that makes sense but then I start to lose it all when I get to b. lol

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

normal male turkeys can be hatched from unfertilized eggs by parthenogenesis. see dis is what i read....so i guess its b

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

i maybe wrong though..i m still searching a good reference site..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh each of those are a question lol not multiple choice, i wish!

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ohh woops....ok wait.so u understood d 1st 1 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i didn't realize that this question had the answer in the back but i still don't get how the book got the answer lol it says a. would be all females. Which makes sense cuz if the eggs never got through meiosis then they never would have been fertilized and remained female ovum. But then they say b. and c. would be males. But how? and let me check what d. says

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d. says 1/5 ZZ males and 4/5 ZW females

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

so in d 2nd eggs undergo meiosis..so now dey hv haploid set of chromosome....so either they have a Z or a W. then when dey duplicate it would form either ZZ or WW. ww do not survive..so u only get ZZ

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

u getting me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so with this question, i mean what I'm about to say is probably stupid lol but I should only be looking at the ovum through mitosis, meiosis I, and meiosis II? I guess I don't understand how the ovum can go through meiosis bc my book is saying that meiosis I occurs only at ovulation and meiosis II occurs only after fertilization. So I shouldn't be looking at the spermatocyte whatsoever.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ok lets do 1 thing...keep ur book aside bcuz its confusing u...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i'm a visual learner lol

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ok so now...in a) egg does not undergo meiosis..so its diploid...and as its a egg its chromosmes hv female genotype as in ZW. so the offsprings from this type wud b all females..correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yes book aside lol i think my problem is I still don't have a great grasp on mitosis and meiosis. I think I do but maybe I don't lol

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ok den ill give u a link wich has a vdeo of mitosis and meiosis..dat will help u as u r a visual person..:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh yes that just might! = ) let me check that out first and then can we pick up from where we are leaving off?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ohh yes definitely..:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much = )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i guess the question I have now is do gametes ever go through mitosis? or is it only meiosis that they go through

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi do you know genetics? = )

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

hey...yes i know genetics...i have studied it last sem...wenevr u come online just tag me...

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

and ya...gametes r formed after they undergo meiosis...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i think i get that chapter now. I've moved on to ch. 19 which is all about the hardy-weinberg stuff which I thought I knew somewhat about but these formulas are making my head explode. I'm sure it's really simple but I think my book is really complicating it for me. = (

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

hi! are u there? i can help u now...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey i got some more q's = )

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

heya..sure...post the question in a new link....so that ill be able to see it easily....ping me when u come online
