OpenStudy (vshiroky):

y=-5 What is the slope and y intercept? slope:0? y intercept (0,-5) Is that right? I'm not sure if you can have a slope of 0

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

slope:0? y intercept (0,-5) \(\Large \checkmark\) |dw:1392245189549:dw|

OpenStudy (jadeishere):

You can have a slope of zero :P

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf slope = {\color{green}{ m}}= \cfrac{rise}{run}\) notice is a horizontal line, no matter what \(y_1\ and \ y_2\) you pick, they'll both be -5 -5 -(-5) = 0 so the fraction numerator will always be 0, thus the slope as well

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Thank you :)

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

If I have (2,11) and (3,7) My slope would be -4 right?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Yay

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

I have another question lol

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Use the slope intercept form to graph the equation y=-8x

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

I know the slope is -8. Would the y intercept be (0,0)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Yes...when there is no stated y-intercept, it begins at the origin

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

|dw:1392245072832:dw|

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

would that be my graph?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

That looks correct to me!

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

So if it's a negative slope I go down and to the right?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

|dw:1392245855649:dw|

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

If you divide a negative and negative is it positive? I appreciate all the help

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

For instance I have 5x-6y=1 Then it'd be y=-5/6x+1?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

5x - 6y = 1 -5x -5x -6y = -5x + 1 ------------- -6 -6 -6 y = (5/6)x - (1/6)

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Sometimes I forget to do the last number divided by the 6 lol thank you

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Yeah you have to divide everything by the -6 :)
