Based on the words luminous, treasure, search, lose, scintillating, and riddle that are used in the poem, what does the poet think of love? Precious but mysterious Short-lived and fickle Understandable but strange Well-worn and comfortable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For her this rhyme is penned whose luminous eyes, Brightly expressive as the twins of Leda, Shall find her own sweet name, that nestling lies Upon the page, enwrapped from every reader. Search narrowly the lines!—they hold a treasure Divine—a talisman—an amulet That must be worn at heart. Search well the measure— The words—the syllables! Do not forget The trivialest point, or you may lose your labor And yet there is in this no Gordian knot Which one might not undo without a sabre, If one could merely comprehend the plot. Enwritten upon the leaf where now are peering Eyes scintillating soul, there lie perdus Three eloquent words oft uttered in the hearing Of poets, by poets—as the name is a poet's, too, Its letters, although naturally lying Like the knight Pinto—Mendez Ferdinando— Still form a synonym for Truth—Cease trying! You will not read the riddle, though you do the best you can do.

OpenStudy (31356):

Wow, that's a long poem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Loll right I read it and I cannot make sense of it @31356

OpenStudy (31356):

I know

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Gordian knot, the tale of the greatest puzzle of a knot, but undone by one man with a sword. Eyes scintillating soul, there lie perdus Eyes shining brightly on the soul, there exists a soldier on dangerous duty Search narrowly the lines!—they hold a treasure Divine—a talisman—an amulet That must be worn at heart = Look closely at what is said because it contains something very valuable that must be taken inside to the depths of a person. That should show how you can eliminate a couple answers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@e.mccormick thanks for the better understanding I'm still very confused though I was never a poetic person

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, then back to the question: Based on the words luminous, <- Glowing or brightly lit treasure, search, lose, scintillating, <- sparkling or shining brightly and riddle that are used in the poem, what does the poet think of love? The rest I bet you get. OK, so the answers Precious but mysterious <- Has value but hard to understand Short-lived and fickle <- Changes from moment to moment Understandable but strange <- Easy to undertand but odd Well-worn and comfortable <- like your favorite shirt you had for years, it may have a few holes but you still love it.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Now, you can easily eliminate one answer, Short-lived and fickle, because that does not describe a luminous treasure at all! Do you see problems like that with any of the others?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its a or c

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes, d has some issues. It is not really any of those. So: Precious but mysterious <- Has value but hard to understand Understandable but strange <- Easy to understand but odd Now, look at these terms: luminous, treasure, search, lose, scintillating, and riddle Do any of those match/contradict the four words in those two answers? The more they match and less they contradict, the better. For example: Treasure, well, that is Precious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah luminous means light or shinning scintillating means sparkling. its starting to look like the answer is A @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Understandable but strange Understandable Now... Understandable riddle.... I had a problem with that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Huh? @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, are riddles really that understandable? Are treasures strange? I am saying that C has some issues as far as I am concerned.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh i get what your saying yeah its true treasures arent that strange and riddles ugh they're really not that understandable plus he kinda says that in the last part

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Now you get it. Which leaves precious but mysterious pretty much alone. It matches luminous, treasure, search, scintillating, and riddle. I just don't see lose in those words. But things that glow, are treasures, and you search for are precious. Riddles are mysterious and also involve searching.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Definitely it wow you really helped me thank you very much @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, hopefully you can see the thought process. That can help more over time. Looking at the words was good in this case. And yes, this was not an easy question. It took some understanding of archaic terms and references.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah definitely but now that i have a better understanding that will help me determine the next 5 questions that have the same poem in it

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

=)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=) again I appreciate the help
