Does your systolic and/or diastolic arterial pressure change as your heart rate changes? How does this change affect pulse pressure?
Welcome to OpenStudy @jgreene11 !
I already read that, but it didn't help me determine the answer.
O RLY?
Ω
... what ?
That's Greek Omega.
Yes, I am aware, but it is in no way relevant to my question.
I would say yes. Let's think about it: when you exercise or get anxious, what happens to your heart beat? And do you think your blood pressure increases? I think or nurses telling me to calm down and not be nervous before taking measurements.
I'd also say yes
That is true, but diastolic and systolic pressures do not vary in the same way. Also, I am a lecturer at the University of Toronto. I came to check the credibility of this website and so far, I am OK with students using it as there doesn't seem to be any intelligent life on here!
@jgreene11 ...
really?
Wow. Well we students come here to study together. We don't come as geniuses or professors already. We help each other out and rise together. If you really are a lecturer, then we aim to help fellow students who may fail to learn from a mocking teacher. Sorry but you were just plain rude when you don't even know what this site is for. It's not an answer bank. Do read our TaC: http://openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions and CoC: http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct and even our PP: http://openstudy.com/privacy-policy to help explain what we do here. And btw, we have teachers and professors here. They were busy teaching and couldn't come to your question. I thought I would help. Have a good day.
So a lecturer at the University of Toronto thinks it is a great idea to go and cyber bully a community of mostly high school students that also hosts an assortment of others including some college students and the occasional actual teacher? What sort of people do they hire?
hi! i may not be the best person to ask this question because i m not a major in this. but here on openstudy we try to find information on other subjects and we learn from it as well. as u see we all are not professors and experts in various subjects here but a bunch of people who are very eager to learn and help people with our little knowledge that we have. so being a good openstudier i would also like to help u.(even though now i know u dont actually need help)with all due respect to u try finding out what this site is actually about and then think whether u want to say the words u just said!! http://www.healthcentral.com/high-blood-pressure/c/35150/33699/blood?ic=506048 The heart rate must increase its level of functioning to accommodate the intensity of the activity. Therefore, the systolic pressure rises progressively, yet the diastolic measurement stays the same or perhaps decreases slightly. The progressive increase in the systolic pressure causes the pulse rate to increase; allowing the blood flow to the muscles to also increase.
Lol, this is really interesting. I am at fault for casually throwing around Greek like that but that is very rude to imply that all on here are uneducated. Also I didn't really take as much time in answering your question as I could but unfortunately I was in a rush at the time. Thanks @wolfe8 and @shrutipande9 for answering this better than me. :P
Ah up in arms are we ? If you take offence to me expressing my first impression of this website so bluntly, maybe you should be more careful when you reply to questions and not go forth using sarcastic greek idioms that are completely irrelevant.
Sorry but you came to a site full of school kids. You should have expected some playfulness.
"If you take offence to me expressing my first impression of this website so bluntly" That statement is a lie, pure and simple. You did not express an opinion of the web site. You said, "as there doesn't seem to be any intelligent life on here!" which is a direct attack on all the users and owners. So you are saying that this person is an idiot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preetha_Ram And this person: http://www.rit.edu/cos/warren-goldmann and every other person on this site. You did not express an opinion on the site at all. You did express blatant prejudice towards the entire user base. You threw a blanket of doubt over hundreds of thousands of people based on the replies of a few students that happened to be available and willing to help at that moment. And yet you wonder why some members of that user base reacted poorly to this? This web site runs on rules. If you continue insulting people here and showing prejudice towards them, you will be banned.
Oh, and since you are a lecturer, let me put it in academic terms: Your initial argument included an ad hominem fallacy and is therefore invalid.
@e.mccormick i really dont think we need to justify and clarify what this site is about anymore! intelligent people understand what is good and what not. also bookworm has already said sorry....i m sure his intentions were not of being sarcastic.... @jgreene11 i think you have got ur answer from the people you think are not intelligent enough....so now start thinking of changing ur opinion about the users here... we should just stop the discussion once and for all! @preetha i think you should just take a look at this.
Quite the keyboard warrior you are e. mccormick. However, your extreme amounts of extrapolation and incorrect correlation to try and make me seem condescending are just as fallacious as the "ad hominem" you've accused me of. I stated my opinion, if you don't like it I'm sure there are many walls in your house that would welcome the bashing of your head against (a figure of speech in case you also don't understand this), I'm sure. Your attempt at white-knighting is cute. Keep it up.
Any way, thank you for participating in this little social experiment. I have all the data I need now.
Hope you get a phD or a Nobel prize from this experiment. I'll be interested to read your paper. All the best.
You say I did, "extreme amounts of extrapolation and incorrect correlation." However, I am not the one that made a blanket statement. You are. It is not an extreme extrapolation to show how far reaching your blanket statement was. As for correlation, what exactly is incorrect about saying that the statement about there being no intelligent life and calling people idiots is incorrect? When someone obviously saying there is no intelligence in a group of people, it is no different than calling those people idiots. I was taught to qualify my statements, and I have. I have pointed out exactly what you wrote and spoke directly to those topics. When did you qualify your statements? How did you limit them in any way to anything other than the entire site and all the people on it? I was also taught that any singular evaluation can be flawed. This is especially true if any actual measure of quality is desired. A statistical model for evaluation the quality of answers given on a web site such as OpenStudy would require multiple questions as a minimum. They would need to be either very extensive in the number of topics or levels or they would need to be limited so that an evaluation of a single section or topic could be performed. However, posting a single question in a single topic simply does not actually evaluate anything. It does not even have any control measure, making all results invalid.
