Similes are is a figure of speech that compares two things that are alike in some way. Metaphors is a comparison of two dissimilar things which does not use "like" or "as," e.g., "my love is a red, red rose." Example; "Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away" (M) "The shattered ice collected below the tree as if it were a heap of broken glass to sweep away."
