how do I right 2x + 3y = 1200 in function notation, what does the graph of the function represent ?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well just make y the subject...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then the answer for y would be 400

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well almost... start by subtracting 2x from both sides of the equation 3y = -2x + 1200 divide both sides by 3 y = -2/3x + 400

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get that.??? two people have told me that now and I still don't get it

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well subtracting 2x from both sides of the equation, moves it from the left hand side to the right hand side of the equation. Then divide every term by 3 to get the value of a single y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so the function notation is what.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the value of y?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well that is just replacing y with f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. thanks
