Help with algebra equation please :( http://i.imgur.com/rCO0POK.png
the answer in my book says -3 but if you -3 in place of x it does not work out.
well I'd multiply every term by 4, that gets rid of the denominators which results in 8x - (x -5) = 2(3x - 1) + 4 distribute 8x - x + 5 = 6x - 2 + 4 so 7x + 5 = 6x + 2 now just solve for x
your calculation may be wrong.
Oh okay thank you! but can you verify that -3 works out ?
do a proof for me because when I do it it doesn't work
#justsaying
well if you solve the equation above, then you'll find x = -3
uh, but it's not the original equation....
\[2*-3-\frac{ -3-5 }{4 }=\frac{ 3*-3-1 }{ 2 }+1\] \[-6-(\frac{ -8 }{4 })=\frac{ -9-1 }{2 }+1\] -6+2=-5+1 -4=-4
thanks guys
lol... well have a look at how I have manipulated the equation to get 7x + 5 = 6x + 2 subtract 6x from both sides x + 5 = 2 subtract 5 from both sides x = -3 so by solving the equation you can show the solution is x = -3
thanks guys you really helped me out appreciate it, I actually spent 3 hours on this equation believe it or not and now see that tiny mistake I did!
