Would I use cosine, or tangent for this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

From a boat on the lake, the angle of elevation to the top of a cliff is 18°41'. If the base of the cliff is 991 feet from the boat, how high is the cliff (to the nearest foot)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your not the real batman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I am. You are a failure. You don't even use proper punctuation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

K no need to get hostile, you call me a failure, yet you are the one asking for help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idiot.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a such a joke of question as well, probably the dumbest question on OS. If you can't do this, find a new profession.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was joking. Laugh out loud. And asking for help does not make you a failure. In fact, if no one ever asked for help, we really would all be idiots.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

tangent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You got your answer, now close it dummy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm 16 years old. Right now, that is my profession. I assumed tangent, but it had just asked me a similar question, so I thought there might be something different about this one. Thank you jdoe! And may God bless you both.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf tan(\theta)=\cfrac{opposite}{adjacent}\implies adjacent\cdot tan(\theta)=opposite\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your rudeness is quite adorable @iambatman ! :3 Sure know how to make a girl smile.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you get a negative number @jdoe0001 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh cmon you can at least get the answer yourself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Goodbye @iambatman ! God bless you! I won't be seeking your assistance.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm atheist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then God bless you even more. I'll pray for you! <3

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ahemm... nope, it's a positive length, make sure your calculator is in Degrees mode notice you have the angle in degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops. That makes more sense. Sorry about all that nonsense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lolol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're not even close to being batman!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sweetheart, I feel you are wasting both your time, and mine. Please go help someone else, seeing as you're not helping me in the least. In fact, you're quite annoying. I said I would pray for you, I don't know what else you are seeking. And the reason I love him is because we have similar pasts, not just a random athiest obsession. Enjoy the rest of your day!

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ahemm \(\bf \begin{array}{cccllll} degrees&minutes\\ \hline\\ 1&60\\ x&41 \end{array}\implies \cfrac{1}{x}=\cfrac{60}{41}\implies 0.68333 \approx x\\ \quad \\ \quad \\ 18^o41' \approx 18.68333^o\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope. I did it with 18.41 for some reason. It should have been 18.68. So it would be 335.05, right?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yeap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You posted that just as I realized my mistake. Thanks again! :) God bless!
