How do machines use energy and momentum?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Please elaborate your question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how? that's all the question had asked ;-;

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

In which context are we talking about ? Or, what is the name of the chapter ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it said "Glucose energy for life" but a machine isn't a living thing so im confused why they would ask me about machines

OpenStudy (roadjester):

Is this for a chemistry class?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Machines use energy and momentum to perform work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its for integrated science o: so its pretty much used in the same way living things use it?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Yep!! Theoretically, we can prove that there is an upper limit on the amount of work that can be extracted from any energy transformation (for a so-called reversible machine). Any other machine, whether living or non-living cannot be more efficient than the reversible machine. Hence, we can deduce an upper-limit for the amount of work done without knowing the characteristics of the machine. I guess, that's why they are comparing living things to a machine. To assert how much work can an organism do by burning a given amount of glucose.

oh wow okay thank you so much!o:

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

You're welcome :)
