What is the difference between a ratio and it's related rate and unit rate?
@Mertsj
A ratio typically does not have units where a rate does have units. Usually related to time.
Ratio: 1/2 Rate: 120 miles/ 2 hours Unit rate: 60 miles/1 hour
There is this definition that I don't understand about related unit rate: "A related rate is an equivalent ratio that compares the first quantity in a ratio to only one of the second quantity".
A fancy way to say that in the "unit rate" the denominator is 1 sec or 1 min or 1 class or...
I understand the unit rate, but I don't understand the related rate.
You ask about 3 things: 1. ratio 2. related rate 3. related unit rate Do you now wish to amend your question?
Can you please explain to me related rate? I understand ratio and unit rate.
I might say that the ratio of two quantities is 120/3 That is a unitless ratio There may be a rate that is related to that ratio. It might be 120 miles in 3 hours or: \[\frac{120 miles}{3hours}\]
120/3 is a pure ratio. 120 miles / 3 hours is the related rate
If you now rewrite the rate so that the denominator is 1 hour, now it is a unit rate.
I am still kind of confused 😕
Then you should study the questions, responses, and examples of this post until you understand.
