Equivalent Inductance using a mutual charge Below is what I have done, I can not find a way to solve past what I did. I do have some hints from my proessor however. Please show steps and reasoning since I do not fully understand this problem.

OpenStudy (kenljw):

Capacitors in parallel act like resistor in series Inductors in parallel act like resistors parallel The parallel 5 H inductors have an effective inductance of 2.5 H not 10 H

Yes, that is the obvious and it is correct, but you are not considering the mutual inductance. What would be your equation for this solution including the mutual inductance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

L equivalent, and please show and explain steps

OpenStudy (kenljw):

The mutual inductance can be negative or positive depending on mounting and current directions throw inductors even though there in parallel. There's different ways of determining it, if there sufficiently separated and possibly perpendicular in mounting mutually inductance can be neglected.

I think everyone is avoiding the question and regurgitating the obvious.

Please look at the thread you started under the Physics II: Electricity and Magnetism section. http://openstudy.com/study?source=email#/updates/52ffe005e4b018b58423912f.
