What are the excluded value(s)? https://media.glynlyon.com/g_alg01_2012/10/9r1.gif -2, 3 -1, 6 -2, -6 @phi how would i go about this one
there are few things we don't do in math. one is *no divide by 0* so we exclude anything that might cause a divide by 0
but how is there only one v and two numbers ??
that means you want to exclude any v values that cause the bottom to be 0 you can solve this by setting the bottom = 0 and solve for all the values that cause the equation to be 0. Those will be the excluded values.
can bouth those numbers be plugged in and it equals the smae thing ??
same
Yes, you can test the answer choices. But you should be able to solve a quadratic. A quadratic is a parabola ( U shaped curve) it can it the x-axis (where y=0) twice... so 2 answers.
can so how do i solve this then ??
Here is what it looks like, as a graph
ok am i finding these points on it
if i am is it a ??
yes. you can check. Test v= -2 -2*-2 - (-2) -6 4 + 2 - 6 6-6 0 yes , that make the bottom 0. So we must exclude. I am sure 3 works also
To learn one way to solve this, see Sal's video http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/quadratics/quadratic_odds_ends/v/solving-a-quadratic-by-factoring
okok thanks
