how do you determine the height of an equilateral triangle? (all sides are three inches)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*cm

OpenStudy (kamibug):

http://www.vitutor.com/geometry/plane/equilateral_triangle.html see if that helps ^-^

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Why not sketch an equilateral triangle, labeling the sides, the altitude (height), the length of the base of the equil. triangle, and so on? Once you've done that, look for ways in which to determine the height of the triangle. You could use trig, or use the Pyth. Theorem.

Thanks! Yes it did help. How does the apothem come in to the picture? and in order to do regular trig or the Pythagorean theorem you have to have the length of more then one side

OpenStudy (mathmale):

(1) in an equilateral triangle, the sides are all equal. (2) Don't know what you mean by "apothem." Either this is a term I don't know, or the word has been misspelled. (3) Choose whichever is easier for you: the Pyth. Thm. or trig.
