what is the diffrence between atp and adp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ADP = Adenosine di-phosphate ATP = Adenosine tri-phosphate basically ATP has one more phosphate group than ADP, and because ATP has one more phosphate group than ADP, it contains more potential energy because more bonds could be broken ATP forms ADP when it breaks a phosphate group to utilize its bond energy to do work, and ADP forms AMP (adenosine mono-phosphate) ~yahoo

OpenStudy (zale101):

They basically have the same goal in a cell, to make energy. But atp has more potential energy than ADP because ATP has more phosphate group than ADP. Hence: ATP stands for "Adenosine tri-phosphate" tri means three. When the ATP breaks a phosphate group, it becomes ADP. ADP stands for "Adenosine di-phosphate" Di means twice . Less phosphate group.
