In an isotonic solution there is no net movement of a molecule in or out of a cell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.phschool.com/science/biology_place/biocoach/biomembrane1/isotonic.html If the molecules outside and inside the cell are equal, the solution is said to be isotonic to the cell, and in this process, water diffuses into and out of the cell at equal rates, causing no net movement of water. Not entirely sure about other molecules, but relatively sure that it holds true.
