Why is it so hard for historians to agree why Great Zimbabwe declined?
hello
hey!
do u know this?
i am thinking!!!(:
i can explain a little about great zimbabwe if u want.
yes please do!!(:
ok. great zimbabwe was the largest settlement in the shona empire (just an african empire u dont need to know about it). it thrived from the gold trade. i the west right beside it were the gold-mining regions. in the east were trading cities. great zimbabwe taxed traders that passed through and got rich. in the 1400s, great zimbabwe started to decline and by 1500, it was abandoned. some historians say drought and overuse of land by cattle caused shortage of resources led people to leave, others say people left to take advantage of shifting trade networks.
well i would say that the declined would of been there say no more gold left!!!
t do u think? i think that all the gold was gone so they started doing bad!
no they would just dig more gold mines.
oh then idk maybe the made the Africans slaves!!
no
idk i am not that good with African History sorry David maybe my friend can help @LadyM

Why is it so hard for historians to agree why Great Zimbabwe declined?

in the sixteenth century Portuguese often sent troops into the heart of the continent to look for a source of a precious metal. during one of the expeditions a Portuguese captain came across a "fortress built of stones". the soldiers came onto the Great Zimbabwe that was a powerful kingdom for three hundred years, but it was abandoned around 1450.Great Zimbabwe was built by a Bantu- Speaking people who had occupied the area since the third century. the people was ancestors of the shona people of modern day nation of zimbabwe. This was one of the largest human construction in sub saharan africa. although the city is in ruins the wall of granite stand at thirty feet high and sixteen feet thick. pretty crazy huh? when the uncovering of Great Zimbabwe had begun most of the the riches were stolen by European treasure hunters in the 19th century. the people who had built this amazing fortress never had any writeen records so historians and archaeologist dont know why the city was abandoned. some think it was of disease, others think that trade routes changed and with the arrival of the portuguese ended the regions source of wealth.
THANKS Maddy!!!(:
