Can anyone classify parallelograms???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

every parallelogram is a rhombus t or f every rectangle is a quadrilateral t or f every quad with 4 congruent sides is a square t or f every quad is a rectangle t or f? please help me

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

1. not every parallelogram is a rhombus, a parallelogram can also be a square or rectangle 2. by definition of a rectangle, has four sides and is therefore always a quadrilateral 3. a quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides can be a rhombus 4. a quadrilateral doesn't always have to be a rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314 is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so t or f for them...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. False 2. True 3. False 4. False

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you do more?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

post away

OpenStudy (anonymous):

every rectangle with 4 congruent sides is a square t or f every rectangle is a square t or f every rhombus is a square t or f every quad is a rhombus t or f

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

1. rectangle is a quadrilateral with equal angles a square is a quadrilateral with congruent sides AND equal angles so a rectangle that has congruent sides IS a square 2. a rectangle does not always have to be a square 3. a rhombus does not always have to be a square 4. a quadrilateral does not always have to be a rhombus for example, a trapezoid is a quadrilateral

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so t or f

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

read

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did. I just need to know if they are t or f.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

"IS" = true "does not always" = false so read

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually on number 3, a rhombus is always equivalent on all sides right, so wouldn't it be a square???? I thought every rhombus was a square??

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

a square has to have both all equal sides AND all equal angles a rhombus is just all equal sides |dw:1392689192706:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I got it! new set: every square is a quad t or f every quad is a parallelogram t or f every rhombus with 4 right angles is a square t or f every rhombus is a rectangle t or f

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

1. all squares have four sides therefore all squares ARE quadrilaterals 2. a trapezoid is a quadrilateral but is NOT a parallelogram 3. a rhombus with 4 equal angles IS a square 4. a rhombus does NOT have to have all equal angles while a rectangle does.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

new set: every parallelogram is a rectangle t or f every quad is a square t or f every square is a rhombus t or f every quad with 4 congruent sides is a square t or f

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

1. a parallelogram can be a rhombus, NOT always a rectangle 2. a quadrilateral can be a trapezoid, NOT always a square 3. all squares have all equal sides = rhombus 4. quad with 4 equal sides can be a rhombus which is NOT always a square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much!!! and are you good with circumference and area of a circle?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

depends...

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

post your question, I'll see what I can help with...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. try it? find the circumference and the area of a circle with a diameter of 2yd. use the value 3.14 for pie. and do not round your answers. be sure to use correct units in your answers.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

circumference = diameter times pi so 2 times 3.14 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6.28 and the unit is yd?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and how do you do area?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

area of circle = 2 times pi times radius times radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 3.14*2= 6.28*1?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you get for area...?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

radius = diameter divided by 2 2 / 2 = 1 so radius = 1 so area = 2 * 3.14 * 1 * 1 = 6.28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. that's incorrect....

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk. im on aleks. it a math thing for school and I typed that area in and it said it was incorrect.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

unit is yd^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it. find the circumference and the area of a circle with a radius of 8ft use value 3.14 for pie. do not round answers

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

circumference = diameter * 3.14 = 2 * 8 * 3.14 area = 3.14 * 8 * 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find area and circumference of circle with a diameter of 8cm. use the value 3.14 for pie. do not round answers.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

circum = diameter * 3.14 area = (diameter / 2) ( diameter / 2) (3.14)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its saying area is worng

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

area = 4 * 4 * 3.14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it! find a and c of circle with radius of 7m use the value 3.14 for pie. do not round answers

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

c = 2*7*3.14 a = 7*7*3.14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks. and just a couple more problems! thanks again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find c and a of a circle with a DIAMETER of 3ft use the values 3.14 for pie. do not round answers

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

c = 3 * 3.14 a = 1.5 * 1.5 * 3.14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much. I would ask you to do 1 more topic but I think you have done enough

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I could give ya tips if you need it...

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

like how the entire circle topic was just c = d * 3.14 and a = r^2 * 3.14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like volume of a cylinder??

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

volume of cylinder = height * base base = area of circle = r*r*3.14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its just the base times the height?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

area of base times height yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the diameter of a water tank is 18ft and its height is 18ft. what is the volume the water can be stored inz/ (use the value 3.14 for pie) see im confused...

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

area of base = 9*9*3.14 volume = area of base times height

OpenStudy (anonymous):

254.34 rounded to the nearest cubic foot is____????

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

what's the unit for 254.34

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think ft^2

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

oh wait... nvm ft^3 round 254.34 to ones place ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 254f^3?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! I have to go now. so bye. thanks for your help again

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

good night

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):
