What are the zero(s) of the function f(x) = the quantity of 5 x squared plus 25 x, all over x

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Is this the equation? f(x) = (5x² + 25x) / x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

well I guess we could divide the numerator by the 'x' which equals f(x) = 5x + 25x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait dont you have to factor first?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

wait that's 5x + 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where do you get that from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the zero is what I'm looking for

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Basically, math books now ask for the "zeroes" when they should say "what's the answer". Anyway if 5x + 25 = 0 what is x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Check that again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait no its 0 and 5

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Very good !! Now you have just found the zero! (In other words you found the answer.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

No -5 is the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

ok :-)
