The first one is the most appropriate of the choices, however the real reply would be that New England was settled first upon the arrival of the British, and their fore was not available to plant large farms, even in places like Minnesota where the growing season is short we plant crops, and have been sense before the europeans arrived, I would just reply that none of the replies fully get into the meat of the issue.
