signaling proteins description ( what does it do?) example

OpenStudy (aaronq):

they transmit/generate/relay signals. "How Do Cells Respond to Signals? Once a receptor protein receives a signal, it undergoes a conformational change, which in turn launches a series of biochemical reactions within the cell. These intracellular signaling pathways, also called signal transduction cascades, typically amplify the message, producing multiple intracellular signals for every one receptor that is bound. Activation of receptors can trigger the synthesis of small molecules called second messengers, which initiate and coordinate intracellular signaling pathways. For example, cyclic AMP (cAMP) is a common second messenger involved in signal transduction cascades. (In fact, it was the first second messenger ever discovered.) cAMP is synthesized from ATP by the enzyme adenylyl cyclase, which resides in the cell membrane. The activation of adenylyl cyclase can result in the manufacture of hundreds or even thousands of cAMP molecules. These cAMP molecules activate the enzyme protein kinase A (PKA), which then phosphorylates multiple protein substrates by attaching phosphate groups to them. Each step in the cascade further amplifies the initial signal, and the phosphorylation reactions mediate both short- and long-term responses in the cell (Figure 2). How does cAMP stop signaling? It is degraded by the enzyme phosphodiesterase." http://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/cell-signaling-14047077

thanks, next one is storage proteins

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no probs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with my second one?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

i'm don't know the answer, i googled the previous one and i'm sure you can do the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i've tried but the district iprismed most of the sites so i have no access to them and if i try to break the prism i could get in serious trouble

OpenStudy (aaronq):

then i'm sure theres another way for you to find the answer. Perhaps it's in your assigned readings from textbooks or another source. It's impossible for them to expect you to know this without providing you with the material first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant to get the article but my teacher isn't here right now, i forgot to go pick it up and he is probably gone now, not to be rude. just making a polite statement * super big smile *

OpenStudy (aaronq):

wait till you get the article?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not an option, this was due a few weks ago and i nforgot to do the ;ast few questions.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

idk what to tell you, my motto is "be on top of your work and don't leave it till the last minute."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know, but i have memoruy issues so that is why i forgot to get it done
