On a scale drawing of a car, 2 inches=5 feet if the car is 15 feet long, how long is the drawing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6in because 5ft times 3 is 15ft so u would do 2in times three as well to get 6in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2" = 5ft 15/5=3 (3) 2" = (3) 5ft 6" = 15ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if 2in =5ft then 6in would= 15ft

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You could solve this easily by setting up an equation of ratios: Actual car length Scale drawing length 5 ft 2 in ----- = ------------ 15 ft x Cross multiply this equation. Then solve for x. x will be in inches.

My answer would be 6? I also had one more question, if I am talking about how long someones front yard is would I use inches or feet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

feet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yes the answer would be 6 but dont forget the inches symbol so it would be 6in

OpenStudy (mathmale):

This produces the same result as others have already obtained: The 15' long car is represented by a 6" long illustration. People do this all the time, but 2" = 5ft is not correct; 2 inches on the diagram corresponds to 5 feet in actual length.

feet. inches are too small. right so replace the = with :
