Ms. Watson receives a base pay of $150, plus a commission of $45 on each appliance that she sells. Her total pay depend on how many appliances she sells.

x be no. of appliances
150 + 45x
OpenStudy (mathmale):
Linear functions have the form y=mx+b, where m = slope/rate of change and b = y-coordinate of the y-intercept.
so you'll need to come up with an equation for Pay in the form
Pay = Base Pay + (Commission Rate)*x, where x is the number of units sold.
OpenStudy (mwhit2101):
pay=150+45x?
OpenStudy (mathmale):
Aux is correct. He / she could improve his/ her response by labeling this function and inserting proper units of measurement.
OpenStudy (mathmale):
Note how MWhit has labeled his/her function. :)

its a function, functions for graphs don't have units ><
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but yeah i could've added the word pay.
OpenStudy (mathmale):
Doesn't the original question ask for a function?
OpenStudy (mwhit2101):
So my answer would be f(a)=45a+150 mathmale?
OpenStudy (mathmale):
Yes. That'd be perfect if you'd please insert the appropriate units of measurement.
