OpenStudy (vshiroky):

A line has a slope of 6. A. What is the slope of the line parallel to it? B. What is the slope of the line perpendicular to it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. Slope = 6 B. Slope = -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

parallel lines have equal slopes >> a) 6 perpendicular lines have slopes with a product of -1 >>> b) -1/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^What he said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SherryRoadcap do check your calculations :DDD

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

How do I figure it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u figure what out @vshiroky

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

The slope of the line parallel and perpendicular.. I'm not sure how you got those

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh my goodness I did do that wrong xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope of the line is the coefficient of x(NO. MULTIPLIED WITH x) which is given in this case as 6...so PARALLEL LINES ALWAYS HAVE EQUAL SLOPES FOR PERPENDICULAR LINE WE HAVE THE FORMULA THAT m1 x m2 =-1 where m1 is the slope of one line and m2 is the slope of the perpendicular...as slope of line is given as 6 we put it into the formula and get a slope of -1/6 :)))

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Ok... I may have another one to try can I tag you if I do with my answer?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

What is the slope is 8/9

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

The parallel is 8/9 is the perpendicular -8/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k..glad to help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the slope is 8/9 then parallel lines will have equal slopes perpendicular lines will have slopes with a product of -1>>> -9/8

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Hmm ok thank you
