OpenStudy (kitkat16):

Geometry help please! Point R divides PQ in the ratio 1:3. If the x-coordinate of R is -1 and the x-coordinate of P is -3, What is the x-coordinate of Q?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there a picture for this?

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

No they gave me choices but its hard when you can't see it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can i see the choices it's easier for me that way to help you

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

the ratio is 1:3 so I want to say -1/3 but im probably wrong

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

-1/3 3 5 6 -9

OpenStudy (nikato):

Since the ratio is 1:3, that means in simplest form, PR/RQ = 1/3 Can you find the distance between P and R?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess he can help you ^ but let me know if you need my help

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

2/3

OpenStudy (nikato):

Should be 2. P is on -3 and R is on -1. -1-(-3)=2 So the distance between P and R is 2. Does this make sense?

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

Yes it makes but it wasn't one of my choices

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

^sense :/

OpenStudy (nikato):

Ok, we're not done. So you can write a proportion 1. 2 ---=----- 3. x Start by cross multiply and solve for x

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its 6 good job

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

Thanks guys!!!

OpenStudy (nikato):

Yup,, great job. Your welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome :D make sure you reward either @nikato or me for helping you your choice

OpenStudy (kitkat16):

wish I could reward you both!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know it's fine i think @nikato did most the work so he deserved it
