Okay, I happen to have understood why its negative but I am not so sure that the explanation given is correct.

The slope of the graph = Change is current/ change in voltage. By change here, it means final value - initial value. In the region BC, the initial value of current is higher than the final value. So, the change must be negative. But, voltage is increasing throughout. You know that resistance = 1 / slope because r=v/i Hence, the resistance is negative.
